Named the ‘wax lip’, the extra material added the the bottom guard is designed to create a smooth surface and insures that all teeth are touching the guard at the same time. Smile Guard Solution’s EMA also has been perfectly designed to allow for side to side movement because of the flat surface, which may be essential for some patients. It is also compatible with a CPAP machine.
With traditional MAD’s, the first and second molars contact the guard first which may cause inclusion, exclusion, and an increase in TMJ payload.
